If you have asked three developers this question, you probably got three answers that were far apart. One said a few hundred dollars. One said tens of thousands. Neither told you why.
The honest answer is that an online store is not one product. It is a bundle of decisions, and the price follows those decisions. Once you know which ones matter, you can price your own project in about ten minutes.
The three kinds of store
1. A template store. You pick a platform like Shopify, choose a theme, upload products, connect payments. This is the right call if you sell a normal catalogue, want to launch fast, and do not need anything unusual. It is the cheapest route, and the price depends mostly on how much setup and branding you want.
2. A customised store. Same platform, but with custom design, a tailored checkout, extra integrations, Arabic and English, and proper product data structure. This is where most serious UAE brands land. Expect it to cost more than a template store, mostly because of design and integration work, not code.
3. A custom built platform. You need something the platforms do not do well: complex pricing, made to order products, marketplace features, subscription logic, or tight integration with your own inventory system. Here you are paying for software, not a store. It costs more, but you own everything and there are no per order platform fees eating your margin.
What actually drives the price
Payments. The UAE has its own set of gateways and habits. Card payments through providers such as Stripe, Telr, PayTabs or Network International are standard. Buy now pay later options like Tabby and Tamara are now expected by many shoppers. Cash on delivery is still common. Each option adds integration and testing time.
Arabic and English. A proper bilingual store is not a translation plugin. Right to left layouts, Arabic typography, and separate product content all add real work. If half your customers read Arabic, this is worth doing properly.
Delivery and logistics. Shipping rates by emirate, courier integrations, same day delivery rules, and returns handling. A simple flat rate is cheap. Live courier rates and tracking are not.
VAT and invoicing. VAT in the UAE is 5 percent. Your store needs to show it correctly and produce compliant invoices. This is easy to get wrong if it is bolted on at the end.
Product data. Ten products and ten thousand products are different projects. Variants, bulk import, and syncing with an inventory or ERP system change the scope a lot.
Design. A polished, custom design that fits your brand takes more time than a theme with your logo on it. It also converts better, which is the whole point.
Where businesses overspend
Building custom when a platform would do. Paying for features that nobody asked for. Choosing a developer on price alone, then paying twice to fix it.
Where businesses underspend
Product photography. Page speed on mobile. Checkout testing on real phones and real cards. These three things quietly decide whether your store makes money, and they are the first things cut when the budget is tight.
How to get a useful quote
Before you talk to anyone, write down:
- How many products you sell and how often they change
- Which payment methods your customers use
- Whether you need Arabic
- How you deliver, and to where
- Anything you do that a normal store does not
With those five answers, a developer can give you a real number instead of a vague range.
A note on my own pricing
My prices are published: a simple website starts at $250, a full online store at $500, and a fully custom built store starts at $750. Anything more involved, like a marketplace or a store tied into your own systems, gets a written quote first, so you know the price before we start. The full breakdown is on the pricing section of the homepage. If you want to talk through your store, book a 20 minute call and I will tell you which of the three kinds you actually need, even if the answer is the cheapest one.
I have built stores for businesses in the UAE and beyond, including Jeem and Cast & Crate. You can see how they turned out before you decide anything.
